Role of fa-ligand in age-related maculopathy not etablihed

PURPOE: Fa-ligand expreion on retinal pigment epithelium i hypotheized to have an inhibitory effect on human ocular neovacularization. METHOD: We tudied Fa-ligand expreion in the aging retinal pigment epithelium and in early and late tage of age-related maculopathy. Immunohitochemitry with antibodie againt Fa-ligand wa performed on paraffin-embedded ection of 23 human eye bank eye (aged 45 to 96 year) and 12 eye with exudative age-related maculopathy. REULT: Fa-ligand expreion in retinal pigment epithelium wa not related to age or to the preence of early age-related maculopathy. Furthermore, Fa-ligand expreion in retinal pigment epithelium wa imilar in ubretinal and ubretinal pigment epithelium choroidal neovacular membrane. CONCLUION: It appear to be unlikely that Fa-ligand expreed on retinal pigment epithelium control the extenion of choroidal neovacular membrane from ubretinal pigment epithelium to ubretinal.
