Abstract :
PURPOE: To determine the relationhip between quantitative nerve fiber layer meaurement and viual field teting in patient with large cup-to-dik ratio.
METHOD: eventy-ix patient with vertical cup-to-dik ratio by contour of at leat 0.8 on tereocopic photograph and 50 normal ubject were included. One eye wa randomly elected for tudy. All patient underwent tandard achromatic automated perimetry, hort-wavelength automated perimetry, and retinal nerve fiber layer meaurement with canning laer polarimetry. Analyi of variance wa ued to evaluate difference between the ubject group. ignificance of pairwie comparion wa determined uing the Tukey–Kramer multiple comparion tet.
REULT: tatitically ignificant difference in nerve fiber layer meaurement between patient with large cup-to-dik ratio and both abnormal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and hort-wavelength automated perimetry (n = 22) and patient with large cup-to-dik ratio and both normal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and hort-wavelength automated perimetry (n = 42) were found for uperior naal ratio, maximum modulation, ellipe modulation, and the linear dicriminant function (Tukey–Kramer le than .05). There wa no ignificant difference in patient with abnormal hort-wavelength automated perimetry only (n = 9) a compared with patient with both normal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and hort-wavelength automated perimetry and patient with both abnormal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and hort-wavelength automated perimetry. tatitically ignificant difference between the normal ubject and patient with large cup-to-dik ratio and both abnormal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and hort-wavelength automated perimetry were found for all retinal nerve fiber layer parameter, with the exception of ymmetry, uperior ratio, and inferior ratio.
CONCLUION: Our reult how coniderable overlap in nerve fiber layer meaurement in eye with large cup-to-dik ratio and abnormal viual field a compared with eye with large cup-to-dik ratio and normal viual field. Thi may limit the clinical uefulne of canning laer polarimetry for detection of early glaucoma in patient with large cup-to-dik ratio. Longitudinal tudie are needed to determine if patient with large cup-to-dik ratio with normal tandard achromatic automated perimetry and abnormal hort-wavelength automated perimetry ubequently develop tandard achromatic automated perimetry defect and if canning laer polarimetry can concurrently detect progreion of nerve fiber layer damage.
