Abstract :
PURPOE: To invetigate the preence of baic fibroblat growth factor, glutamine ynthetae activity, and interleukin-6 in ubretinal fluid from patient with retinal detachment.
METHOD: In a propective tudy we meaured baic fibroblat growth factor, glutamine ynthetae activity, interleukin-6, and total protein in ubretinal fluid ample from 96 eye from 94 conecutive patient with a retinal detachment corrected by a conventional cleral buckling operation in our clinical practice. A control, vitreou fluid ample from eye with a macular hole (n = 6) or pucker (n = 11) were ued. Laboratory data of the patient group were compared with the control group and correlated with variou clinical data.
REULT: Level (median, range) of baic fibroblat growth factor, glutamine ynthetae activity, interleukin-6, and total protein were ignificantly higher in patient than in control (P < .0001). An increaed level of glutamine ynthetae and total protein correlated with a longer duration of the retinal detachment (r = .4, P = .002, and R = .34, P = .001, repectively). Interleukin-6 and baic fibroblat growth factor level did not correlate with the duration of the detachment. After multivariate logitic regreion analyi, no ignificant relation wa found between any of the teted ubretinal protein and a low viual outcome or redetachment.
CONCLUION: We found increaed level of baic fibroblat growth factor and glutamine ynthetae in ubretinal fluid from patient with retinal detachment. Baic fibroblat growth factor and glutamine ynthetae may play a role in the pathogenei and recovery after retinal detachment. The quetion of whether the increaed level of baic fibroblat growth factor and glutamine ynthetae reult from leakage of dying glia cell (including Müller cell) and neuron and if baic fibroblat growth factor i actively produced to protect the photoreceptor cell need further reearch
