METHOD: Thi i a multicenter, retropective review of clinical data available for five HIV-infected patient who were given the diagnoi of ichemic maculopathy. REULT: All cae had been diagnoed on the bai of fluorecein angiogram obtained after patient complained of viion lo. Four of the five patient had bilateral macular dieae. Viual acuity at preentation in the nine affected eye ranged from 20/20 to count finger. Viion lo wa gradual in both eye of one patient and wa abrupt in onet in even eye. Each of the even eye with abrupt viion lo had opacification of the uperficial retina and/or intraretinal hemorrhage near the fovea. Fluorecein angiography revealed enlargement of the foveal avacular zone and mild taining of the juxtafoveal veel in affected eye. ix eye had active or clinically inactive cytomegaloviru retiniti at preentation, and a eventh eye developed cytomegaloviru retiniti 2 week later. All patient were receiving anticytomegaloviru drug when they developed viual ymptom. Viual acuity remained table in five eye, became wore in two eye, and improved in two eye; final viual acuity ranged from 20/25 to count finger. CONCLUION: Ichemic maculopathy may caue profound and permanent viion lo in HIV-infected individual. Fluorecein angiography hould be conidered in all HIV-infected patient with unexplained lo of viion.
