The role of leptin in choroidal neovacularization

PURPOE: The purpoe of thi tudy wa to invetigate the role of leptin in choroidal neovacularization. METHOD: We examined the localization of leptin by immunohitochemitry in nine choroidal neovacular membrane urgically excied from patient with age-related macular degeneration, idiopathic choroidal neovacularization, and ocular hitoplamoi. Control included omiion of primary antibody, ue of an irrelevant primary antibody and leptin taining of poterior egment of four normal donor eye. REULT: Leptin wa preent in eight membrane and appeared veicular, within the cytoplam. The more vacular membrane and thoe coniting of a larger number of retinal pigment epithelium cell were aociated with greater leptin taining. Leptin wa not een in the poterior egment of the four normal eye. CONCLUION: We ugget that leptin play an active role in choroidal neovacularization, although further experiment are neceary to etablih a caual relationhip.
