Comparion of three technique of foveal tranlocation in patient with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization reulting from age-related macular degeneration

PURPOE: To report the reult of three method of foveal tranlocation in the preence of ubfoveal choroidal neovacular membrane reulting from age-related macular degeneration. METHOD: We treated 51 eye of 51 conecutive patient with ubfoveal choroidal neovacular membrane reulting from age-related macular degeneration with one of three technique of foveal tranlocation urgery: foveal tranlocation with partial retinotomy (n = 6), limited tranlocation (n = 9), and tranlocation with 360-degree retinotomy (n = 36). All patient were followed for at leat 6 month potoperatively. The ize of the choroidal neovacular membrane and the amount of foveal diplacement, the bet-corrected viual acuity, and complication were recorded preoperatively and potoperatively. REULT: The mean ditance of the foveal tranlocation wa greater in the 360-degree retinotomy group (3340 μm) than in the partial retinotomy (1060 μm, P < .001) and the limited tranlocation group (1120 μm, P < .001). A final viual acuity of 20/200 or better wa achieved in two eye (33%) in the partial retinotomy group, even eye (78%) in the limited tranlocation group, and 23 eye (64%) in the 360-degree retinotomy group. The final viual acuity improved by 0.2 logarithm of minimal angle of reolution (logMAR) unit or more in one eye (17%), one eye (11%), and even eye (19%), repectively. The final viual acuity wa maintained within 1 line in zero eye, five eye (56%), and 19 eye (53%), repectively. A retinal detachment developed potoperatively in five eye (83%), zero eye (0%), and 15 eye (42%), repectively. CONCLUION: A ignificant number of patient improved or maintained bet-corrected viual acuity after tranlocation with 360-degree retinotomy, and limited tranlocation, wherea tranlocation with 360-degree retinotomy i uitable for larger choroidal neovacular membrane becaue it reulted in the greatet foveal diplacement among the three tranlocation procedure.
