Calcification in choroidal melanoma after tranpupillary thermotherapy

PURPOE: To report the repone of calcification in choroidal melanoma after tranpupillary thermotherapy. METHOD: Interventional cae report. A 66-year-old male with a poterior uveal melanoma meauring 10 × 8 × 4.4 mm underwent infrared diode laer tranpupillary thermotherapy three time, each 12 week apart. For each treatment, a 3-mm pot ize of 1-minute duration wa ued, and the power etting varied between 450 mW and 500 mW. REULT: Two month after the lat tranpupillary thermotherapy eion, A- and B-mode echographic pattern trongly uggetive of intratumor calcification were oberved. The tumor regreed to 2.8 mm in thickne, but calcification perited. Local recurrence or ditant metatai wa not detected during a follow-up of 14 month. CONCLUION: Clinically detectable calcification i extremely rare in choroidal melanoma. Tumor regreion with lowly progreive calcification may occur after tranpupillary thermotherapy
