  • Abstract
    PURPOE: To compare the demographic and ocioeconomic background of patient with pamu nutan (N) and patient with idiopathic infantile nytagmu (IIN). METHOD: Thi tudy wa performed according to an obervational cae-control deign. Parent or guardian of 23 patient with N and 24 patient with IIN completed a 28-point quetionnaire on demographic, ocioeconomic, behavioral, peronal, and family hitory. Mann-Whitney U tet were ued to compare continuou dependent and χ2 analye for categorical variable. Correlation between variable wa calculated by pearman ρ tet and odd ratio for N by Mantel-Haenzel etimate. REULT: Comparing N and IIN, Afro-American, and Hipanic ethnicity wa ignificantly more common in N (14 patient, 61%) than in IIN (1 patient, 4%). ignificant difference between the group were alo found for getational age (mean N: 37.7 week, IIN: 40.3 week), home luminance at birth wa reported to be brighter in more IIN patient (22 patient, 96%) a compared with the N patient (15 patient, 71%). Factor reflecting a lower ocioeconomic tatu were more prevalent in N patient (annual houehold income, individual financially reponible for the houehold, ource of income, availability of private medical inurance). In the N group there were fewer married parent living together (9 familie, 39%) than in the IIN group (21 familie, 88%). Pychiatric diorder, including alcohol and drug abue, were more frequent among parent of N (10 parent, 47%) than of IIN (none). Annual houehold income and ethnicity correlated ignificantly with number of room/houehold. CONCLUION: Thi tudy demontrated difference between N and IIN patient and their familie with regard to ocioeconomic tatu, ethnicity, getational age, pychiatric dieae of parent, and parental etimation of light expoure early in life. We conclude that low ocioeconomic tatu repreent a rik factor for the development of N.
