Abstract :
PURPOE: To invetigate the impact of viual function parameter on computer tak performance in patient with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). DEIGN: Interventional cae erie. METHOD: Eighteen patient with viual impairment due to age-related macular degeneration underwent evaluation of viual acuity uing the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy protocol, contrat enitivity uing a Pelli-Robon chart, binocular imultaneou viual field uing the Eterman program on an automated perimeter, and color viion uing Farnworth D-15. Each ubject then completed 125 computer icon identification tak. Relationhip between computer tak performance (accuracy and peed) and viual function parameter (viual acuity, contrat enitivity, viual field, and color viion) were analyzed. REULT: Viual acuity and contrat enitivity in the better eye, weighted average contrat enitivity, and color viion defect are ignificantly aociated with computer tak accuracy. Viual acuity in the better eye, weighted average viual acuity, and color viion defect are ignificantly aociated with performance peed. Viual function parameter and clinical feature ignificantly aociated with computer tak accuracy in a multiple regreion model include weighted average contrat enitivity (P = 0.001), protan color viion defect (P = 0.002), cataract everity in the better-eeing eye (P = 0.036), and geographic atrophy outide the central macula (P = 0.046). Viual function parameter and clinical feature ignificantly aociated with computer tak peed in a multiple regreion model include color viion defect (deutan, P < 0.001; protan, P < 0.001) and gender (P = 0.05). CONCLUION: Among thi cohort of patient with AMD, viual acuity, contrat enitivity, and color viion defect are ignificant predictor of computer tak performance. Viual function parameter of the better eye played a more ignificant role than parameter of the wore eye, and contrat enitivity i the mot ignificant predictor of computer tak accuracy.
