Abstract :
PURPOE: To compare the viual outcome of two different urgical approache for ubfoveal neovacularization in degenerative myopia: macular tranlocation and urgical removal of choroidal neovacularization (CNV).
DEIGN: Interventional cae erie.
METHOD: Retropectively, 32 eye with degenerative myopia (axial length over 26 mm or refraction over −6 diopter) and ubfoveal CNV of 32 conecutive patient operated on by either urgical removal of CNV or limited macular tranlocation were reviewed. urgical removal of CNV wa performed in 18 eye and limited macular tranlocation with a twofold uture in 14 eye. The main outcome meaurement were bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) and finding from fluorecein angiography. Potoperatively, mean ± D follow up wa 14 ± 15 month (range, 6–48 month) in the removal group and 11 ± 4 month (range, 6–24 month, P = .37) in the tranlocation group.
REULT: In both group, there wa no ignificant difference in preoperative age, ex, refractive error, or BCVA. The average of potoperative BCVA wa tatitically better after macular tranlocation (10 ETDR line or 20/100) than after urgical removal (6 line 10/125, P = .019). Viual acuity improved by 3.8 line after macular tranlocation and wa unchanged after urgical removal (−0.7 line, P = .011). Macular tranlocation wa ucceful in hifting the CNV to an extrafoveal location in 11 out of 14 eye. Mean foveal diplacement of all 18 tranlocated eye wa 695 ± 426 μm (range, 100–1520 μm). Recurrence of CNV occurred in even eye (39%) after urgical removal and in two eye (14%) after tranlocation. Retinal detachment occurred in two eye in each group.
CONCLUION: In thi retropective tudy, eye with degenerative myopia and ubfoveal neovacularization treated with limited macular tranlocation had better viual acuity recovery than eye treated with urgical removal of the choroidal neovacularization. Further tudie are required to confirm thee reult.
