Reolution of epithelial ingrowth in a patient treated with 5-fluorouracil

PURPOE: To report the effect of 5-fluorouracil on the outcome of a ingle cae of epithelial ingrowth econdary to a wound leak after a complicated penetrating keratoplaty. DEIGN: Cae report. METHOD: A 44-year-old man with extenive epithelial ingrowth after trauma and a penetrating keratoplaty received a fluid-ga exchange followed by two injection of 500 μg of 5-fluorouracil into the anterior chamber. REULT: Two week after receiving the 5-fluorouracil injection, complete diappearance of the epithelial ingrowth from the anterior chamber occurred. No evidence of recurrence wa detectable at 5 month. CONCLUION: Ue of 5-fluorouracil i a potentially effective treatment of epithelial ingrowth, particularly in eye with extenive involvement, in which the rik of traditional ablative therapeutic modalitie are coniderable
