A rapidly growing choroidal melanoma

PURPOE: We decribe a rapidly growing choroidal melanoma that failed to repond to conecutive globe-paring treatment in an individual with ocular melanocytoi. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 53-year-old man with right ocular melanocytoi, decreaed viion in the right eye, and right eye pain wa referred for upected choroidal melanoma. The leion, which meaured 2.4 mm × 6.6 mm × 6.0 mm, wa treated with tranpupillary thermotherapy on two occaion and with iodine-125 (I-125) plaque brachytherapy, both of which failed. Enucleation allowed hitologic analyi. REULT: At enucleation, the choroidal melanoma in the right eye meaured 13.6 mm × 16.5 mm × 16.9 mm, which demontrated the mot rapid growth and doubling time reported in a tumor of thi type thu far. Pathologic analyi claified the tumor a a mixed-cell type. CONCLUION: Thi cae reiterate the aociation between ocular melanocytoi and choroidal melanoma, provide additional evidence that rapid growth and doubling time may be aociated with tranpupillary thermotherapy and I-125 plaque failure, and highlight the need to follow thoe tumor cloely.
