Axon in human choroidal melanoma ugget the participation of nerve in the control of thee tumor

PURPOE: To furnih morphologic evidence of autonomic nervou ytem influence on choroidal melanoma. DEIGN: Hitopatholgic cae report. METHOD: In the enucleated eye of a 72-year-old woman, portion of a mixed-cell choroidal melanoma were proceed for electron microcopy, and ultrathin ection were creened paintakingly under magnification of ×13,000 and ×23,000. REULT: The connective tiue of the melanoma contained macrophage, blood veel, and profile of everal nonmyelinated nerve fiber bundle with a maximum of 6 axon. CONCLUION: The exitence of axon in neoplatic tiue indicate nervou input and/or output. Thi led u to conclude that the reaction of the melanoma i ubjected to vegetative influence, yet to an unknown extent.
