Abstract :
PURPOE: To evaluate whether with-the-rule (WTR) or againt-the-rule (ATR) atigmatim influence the treatment outcome of aniometropic amblyopia.
DEIGN: A cohort tudy.
METHOD: Retropective tudy of patient with unilateral amblyopia due to aniometropia without trabimu. Ninety-eight patient with imple, compound, mixed, oblique myopic, and hyperopic atigmatim were divided into even group baed on the type of atigmatim. The group were reviewed a to the amount of aniometropia, duration of occluion, and bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) before and after treatment.
REULT: There wa tatitically ignificant longer duration of occluion and le line gain of BCVA among patient with hyperopic ATR atigmatim compared with patient with hyperopic WTR atigmatim (P = .0143 and P = .0000, repectively) and myopic ATR patient compared with myopic WTR patient (P = .0392 and P = .0192, repectively). For the ame parameter, group difference were alo tatitically ignificant when all hyperopic or myopic imple/compound/mixed ATR patient were compared with all hyperopic or myopic imple/compound/mixed WTR patient (P = .0015 and P = .0000, repectively).
CONCLUION: The outcome of amblyopia treatment eem to be le favorable in patient with either hyperopic or myopic ATR atigmatim. Near viion impairment may be more amblyogenic than ditance viion impairment during viual development
