Abstract :
PURPOE: To evaluate the efficacy and afety of intracameral air injection in treating acute hydrop in keratoconu. DEIGN: Retropective, nonrandomized, comparative trial. METHOD: PATIENT: Thirty eye (30 patient) with acute hydrop econdary to keratoconu. : Nine eye (nine patient) with acute hydrop in keratoconu were treated with intracameral injection of 0.1 ml filtered air. Additional 0.1 ml filtered air wa injected if corneal edema perited when air diappeared from the anterior chamber. Twenty-one eye (21 patient) with acute hydrop that received no therapy or conventional therapy not likely to horten the duration of hydrop erved a control. : The period of peritence of corneal edema, the interval between the onet of acute hydrop, and the time when the eye could begin to wear a hard-contact len, and bet pectacle-corrected and hard-contact len-corrected viual acuity after corneal edema ubided were ued a criteria to evaluate any difference between the two group. REULT: The average period of peritence of corneal edema wa 20.1 ± 9.0 day (± D) in the intracameral air injection group and 64.7 ± 34.6 day in the control (P = .0008). The average interval between the onet of acute hydrop and the time when the eye could begin to wear a hard-contact len, wa 33.4 ± 5.6 day in the air injection group and 128.9 ± 85.8 day in the control group (P = .0058). The bet-corrected viual acuity after corneal edema ubided wa imilar between the two group. Intracameral air injection induced no complication. CONCLUION: The reult ugget that the intracameral air injection i a afe and ueful therapy to horten the period of corneal edema in acute hydrop econdary to keratoconu.
