Abstract :
PURPOE: To tudy retinal atrophy in idiopathic central erou chorioretinopathy (ICC).
DEIGN: Obervational cae erie.
METHOD: Twenty-four eye in 23 conecutive patient aged 33 to 67 year and 50 eye in 25 healthy volunteer aged 24 to 70 year were tudied. Obervational procedure included: biomicrocopy, fundu photography, fluorecein angiography, optical coherence tomography, photocoagulation. Retinal thickne after reolution of detachment, definite attenuation being defined a foveal thickne le than the mean −2 D in healthy volunteer; duration of ymptom; bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA).
REULT: Definite retinal attenuation, retinal thickne ranging from 51% to 74% of normal, wa found in nine eye of nine patient with idiopathic central erou chorioretinopathy (ICC). Their duration of ymptom wa longer (P = .0014) and their BCVA wa lower (P = .015) than eye in patient with normal-range foveal thickne who, neverthele, had thinner foveae than healthy ubject (P = .10). The mot evere reduction of foveal thickne, to half the normal (three eye of three patient), wa aociated with BCVA 0.5 or le, multifocal retinal pigment epithelial abnormalitie, and more than 10 year’ duration of ymptom. Retinal attenuation wa een only after a duration of ymptom of more than 4 month, being mot pronounced in the photoreceptor layer, particularly in the fovea.
CONCLUION: Foveal attenuation in ICC i aociated with more than 4 month’ duration of ymptom and peritent BCVA reduction depite reolution of the erou detachment. We found no other likely caue of atrophy than the prolonged abence of contact between photoreceptor and retinal pigment epithelial cell.
