Ue of the multifocal electroretinogram in the evaluation of a patient with central areolar choroidal dytrophy

PURPOE: To ae the multifocal electroretinogram and full-field electroretinogram finding in a patient with advanced central areolar choroidal dytrophy. DEIGN: Obervational cae report. METHOD: A 53-year-old man with central areolar choroidal dytrophy underwent multifocal electroretinogram and full-field electroretinogram teting. REULT: The multifocal electroretinogram demontrated relative preervation of foveal function compared with the everely depreed retinal function of the perifoveal macula correponding to the location of the retinal and retinal pigment epithelium atrophy. The full-field electroretinogram wa normal for both photopic and cotopic repone. CONCLUION: Depite a normal full-field electroretinogram, the multifocal electroretinogram demontrated ignificant macular dyfunction with relative preervation of foveal function in a patient with central areolar choroidal dytrophy.
