Treatment of idiopathic ubfoveal choroidal neovacular leion uing photodynamic therapy with verteporfin

PURPOE: To report the effect of photodynamic therapy uing verteporfin in the treatment of patient with ubfoveal idiopathic choroidal vacularization (CNV). DEIGN: Interventional cae erie. METHOD: In a retropective tudy, eight eye of eight conecutive patient aged 55 year or younger with ubfoveal idiopathic CNV treated with photodynamic therapy uing verteporfin were evaluated. Viual acuity wa conidered to be improved if the viual angle wa halved, while acuity wa thought to be wore if the viual angle doubled. REULT: The eight patient included three men and five women with a mean (± D) age of 34.6 (± 9.7) year (range 25–53 year). The mean follow-up time wa 13.5 month. At the end of the follow-up period the viual acuity improved in five eye (62.5%), remained unchanged in one (12.5%), and decreaed in two (25%). The mean acuity improvement wa 3.6 line of nellen acuity by the end of the follow-up period, a change that wa tatitically ignificant (P = .027, Wilcoxon igned-rank tet). No patient had any complication from the treatment. CONCLUION: There i no widely accepted method for treating ubfoveal idiopathic CNV and all previouly invetigated method have had a ignificant number of eriou ide effect.
