Abstract
PURPOE: To report a cae of caterpillar etae embedded in the corneal troma and inferotemporal retina with minimal inflammation.
DEIGN: Obervational cae report.
METHOD: A 4-year-old boy developed a red eye after playing with a caterpillar. He wa placed on topical tobramycin/dexamethaone and referred for evaluation of embedded etae in hi conjunctiva, cornea, iri, and retina. Examination revealed no iridocycliti or vitriti.
REULT: Becaue of the lack of intraocular inflammatory repone, no invaive intervention wa conducted to remove or detroy the etae and he wa tapered off the tobramycin/dexamethaone. At 4-month follow-up he remained aymptomatic with the etae till preent in both hi cornea and retina. In addition, vitreou membrane had formed in the immediate vicinity of the intraretinal etae.
CONCLUION: Intraretinal and corneal etae can be embedded with minimal inflammation and can be tolerated without need for urgical intervention.
