Abstract :
PURPOE: To develop criteria for detecting glaucomatou viual field lo for tandard automated perimetry (AP) and hort wavelength automated perimetry (WAP). DEIGN: Longitudinal obervational tudy. METHOD: Three population were evaluated: (1) 348 normal ubject (348 eye) were teted to develop normative databae and tatitical analyi package for AP and WAP. (2) An independent group of 47 normal ubject (94 eye) with 4 year of longitudinal follow-up wa evaluated to determine pecificity of different criteria. (3) A group of 298 patient (479 eye) with elevated intraocular preure and normal baeline AP viual field were evaluated to determine the enitivity of different criteria for detecting early glaucomatou viual field lo. REULT: ix criteria demontrated high pecificity for correctly identifying eye with normal viual field (98%–100%) for both AP and WAP: (1) a pattern tandard deviation (PD) wore than the normal 1% level, (2) a glaucoma hemifield tet (GHT) “outide normal limit,” (3) one hemifield cluter wore than the normal 1% level, (4) two hemifield cluter wore than the normal 5% level, (5) four abnormal (P < .05) location, (6) five abnormal location (P < .05) on the pattern deviation probability plot. For all criteria, confirmation on a econd viual field wa required for high pecificity. The GHT “outide normal limit,” two hemifield cluter wore than the normal 5% level and four abnormal (P < .05) tet location on the pattern deviation probability plot provided the highet percentage of converion from a normal to a glaucomatou viual field. CONCLUION: Criteria baed on the GHT, GHT hemifield cluter, and the pattern deviation probability plot provide high enitivity and pecificity for detecting early glaucomatou viual field change.
