Abstract :
PURPOE: To report an altered uptake and poible complication aociated with the ue of indocyanine green (ICG) dye, internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, and infrared diode laer. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: In two eye (two patient) three-port par plana vitrectomy wa performed. Indocyanine green wa injected into the vitreou cavity according to previouly publihed protocol.[1] The ILM wa removed with a bent-tipped microvitreoretinal blade and ILM forcep. Photocoagulation wa performed with an 810-nm infrared diode endolaer. REULT: Photocoagulation of the retina tained with ICG in area with intact ILM produced more intene and uperficial appearing retinal burn than photocoagulation where the ILM had been peeled. The retinal burn in area of intact ILM tained with ICG alo appeared more uperficial than thoe typical of thi laer when ICG i not ued. CONCLUION: Indocyanine green aborb infrared laer light and produce a photothermal effect. Unwanted damage to the inner retinal layer may occur. Laer energy may alo be prevented from reaching the deeper retinal layer, reducing the efficacy of treatment.
