Abstract :
PURPOE: To report a cae of central retinal artery occluion caued by expanion of intraocular ga during mountain travel at high altitude.
DEIGN: Interventional cae report.
METHOD: A 46-year-old man underwent vitrectomy with intraocular ga tamponade for rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, right eye. During hi trip to Mountain Ali with an altitude of 6,210 feet, he felt a enation of fullne and noted lo of viion in hi right eye. When he came down to ea level, an intraocular preure of 54 mm Hg wa preent in the right eye. He viited our clinic 2 week after the epiode, and the right eye had bet-corrected viual acuity of counting finger, intraocular preure of 14 mm Hg, attenuated retinal arterie, and a pale optic dik.
REULT: Becaue of irreverible damage to the retina of the right eye, he did not receive any treatment.
CONCLUION: We hould not neglect the poibility of hazard for patient with intraocular ga under low atmopheric preure circumtance, uch a mountain travel.
