Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe a patient preenting with typical ign of vacular occluive retinopathy.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
A 65-year-old man experienced painle unilateral lo of viion to 4/20 in hi left eye. Ophthalmocopy of the left eye howed pronounced attenuation of the retinal arteriole, ichemic retinal edema, and a few intraretinal hemorrhage. Fluorecein angiography revealed a diffuely reduced retinal perfuion typical of retinal occluive dieae. Uing a new ophthalmodynamometer with a preure enor at the mounting upport of a conventional Goldmann contact len, we additionally meaured the diatolic central retinal artery collape preure.
Reult
The diatolic central retinal artery collape preure wa ignificantly lower in the left eye than in the right eye (14.7 ± 2.4 relative unit v 51.7 ± 4.3 relative unit; P < .001). Both value were ignificantly (P = .03) lower than thoe in a control group (80.9 ± 6.9 relative unit). Doppler onography revealed a total occluion of the left carotid artery and a nonrelevant tenoi of the right carotid artery.
Concluion
A new ophthalmodynamometric device coniting of a preure enor at the mounting upport of a Goldmann contact len wa helpful in detecting carotid artery occluion leading to ichemic ophthalmopathy.
