  • Abstract
    Purpoe We decribe a new wide-field vitrectomy contact len pecifically deigned to facilitate pediatric vitreoretinal urgery. Deign Experimental tudy, intrument decription. Method A wide-field contact two-piece gla vitrectomy len wa deigned with the larget diameter of 13.6 mm and a contact diameter of 7.00 mm, acrificing only the more tilt-enitive part of the optic in order to reduce it phyical ize. Reult Laboratory meaurement in a model eye demontrated a 61-degree binocular field of view, a 94-degree tatic field of view, and a maximum 129-degree field of view. Image magnification wa 0.50×. No complication were linked to the ue of thi intrument, and the need to exchange for another len wa never encountered in 10 cae. The two-piece gla contruction enabled thi len to be terilized in an autoclave or terilized by any other intrument terilization technique. Concluion The intrument uccefully fulfilled the purpoe of it deign, providing at the ame time an excellent wide field of view and ample pace for the urgeon, performing well in 10 pediatric vitreoretinal cae (8 cae of retinopathy of prematurity; 2 cae of traumatic eye injury). It looe two-piece deign rendered it uitable for all terilization technique.
