Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate whether angiotenin II (AII) or vacular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) i related to diabetic macular edema (DME) in patient with and without poterior vitreou detachment (PVD).
Deign
A cae-control tudy.
Method
Vitreou fluid ample were obtained at vitreoretinal urgery from 28 eye of 28 DME patient without PVD, 8 eye of 8 DME patient with PVD, 14 eye of 14 nondiabetic patient, and 8 eye of diabetic patient without retinopathy. The VEGF level in vitreou fluid and plama were determined by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay, while AII level were meaured by radioimmunoaay.
Reult
The vitreou level of AII and VEGF were ignificantly higher in DME patient with or without PVD than in nondiabetic patient or diabetic patient without retinopathy (without PVD: P < .0061, P < .0001, P = .0261, and P < .0001; with PVD: P < .0012, P < .0001, P = .0473, and P < .0001, repectively). There wa no ignificant difference in the vitreou level of AII or VEGF between patient with or without PVD (P = .4948 and P = .6642, repectively). The vitreou level of AII ignificantly correlated with that of VEGF in DME patient without PVD (P = .576) or with PVD (P = .488). AII and VEGF level in vitreou fluid were ignificantly higher than the repective plama level.
Concluion
We found that the vitreou level of AII and VEGF were elevated in DME patient irrepective of the tatu of PVD. Angiotenin II and VEGF may be induced in the eye and be related to the pathogenei of DME.
