Lecithin-bound uperoxide dimutae in the treatment of noninfectiou corneal ulcer

Purpoe To evaluate the effect of a lipophilic analog of uperoxide dimutae in the treatment of peritent epithelial defect of the cornea. Deign Interventional cae erie. Method Nineteen eye of 19 patient with noninfectiou corneal ulcer were enrolled. Patient profile conited of even cae with Mooren-type peripheral ulcer, three cae with chemical or thermal burn, two cae with vernal keratoconjunctiviti, four cae with cicatricial keratoconjunctiviti, and three cae with terile ulcer after corneal urgery. Patient conited of 11 men and 8 women, with a mean age of 51.5 ± 17.9 year (range, 14–77). Only patient who did not repond to conventional therapy were recruited for the tudy. Lecithinated uperoxide dimutae wa applied for 2 week, and ketche and/or fluorecein lit micrograph were recorded before and at the end of the tudy. The main outcome meaure wa decreae in ulcer ize. Reult A a group, the average ulcer ize relative to the entire cornea decreaed from 18.2 ± 15.1% to 10.0 ± 15.0% after 2 week (P < .05). A dramatic effect (>90% decreae in ulcer ize) wa oberved in eight cae (100% in ix cae), wherea no apparent change wa found (<30% decreae in ulcer ize) in five cae. The preence of polymorphonucleocyte within the ulcerated tiue wa confirmed by bruh cytology. Concluion Lecinthinated uperoxide dimutae wa effective in decreaing peritent epithelial defect ize in a ubet of patient with terile corneal ulcer refractive to conventional therapy. A large-cale clinical invetigation i merited.
