Abstract :
Purpoe
We evaluated the effect of optic dik edema on pontaneou venou pulation (VP) in patient without elevated intracranial preure (ICP).
Deign
Propective, cro-ectional comparion in an intitutional etting.
Method
Twenty conecutive patient with unilateral optic dik edema due to anterior ichemic optic neuropathy (AION, N = 11) or optic neuriti (n = 9) were evaluated. The proportion of ubject with VP in both eye, the involved eye only, the uninvolved eye only, or neither eye wa determined. Comparion were made uing the Exact McNemar Tet.
Reult
There wa a ignificant difference in the proportion of uninvolved and involved eye with VP (60% [12/20] v 5% [1/20], P < .005). pontaneou venou pulation were preent in the uninvolved eye of 12 patient and the nonedematou portion of the optic dik in 1 patient with egmental edema from AION.
Concluion
Optic dik edema may caue VP ceation without ICP elevation.
