Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate poible relationhip between laer flare photometry value, complication of uveiti, and outcome in children with chronic uveiti. Deign Retropective chart review. Method We evaluated patient with active, noninfectiou anterior, intermediate, or panuveiti who were 16 year of age or younger and who had laer flare photometry at one of two academic intitution. Complication enumerated at baeline and during follow-up were compared with laer flare photometry value and to anterior chamber cell count. Reult At leat one laer flare photometry value (“flare”), defined a baeline meaurement, wa available for 59 patient (41 girl, 18 boy; mean age, 10.3 ± 3.5 year); 38 of thee patient had at leat one additional meaurement during follow-up (median 11 month). Complication of uveiti were preent in 35 patient (59%) at baeline. There wa a poitive aociation between increaed laer flare photometry value and complication at baeline (any complication [P = .007], poterior ynechiae [P = .003]). The development of complication during follow-up wa aociated with the preence of complication at baeline (P = .018). A ubgroup of patient with low flare at baeline had no complication during follow-up regardle of treatment given. Concluion There i a poitive relationhip between laer flare photometry value and the prevalence of complication of uveiti in children. Laer flare photometry provide a novel way to monitor children with uveiti. Future tudy will be needed to determine whether value have prognotic importance and whether a treatment trategy that minimize flare reult in fewer uveitic complication.
