Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the relationhip between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) tatu and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) to ae the genetic bai of PDR in younger type 1 diabetic patient.
Deign
Retropective, nonrandomized, comparative trial.
Method
Patient who were diagnoed with type 1 diabete under 30 year of age (range, 13–28) and had a dieae duration of more than 10 year were tudied. The patient were divided into two group: 30 patient who had undergone vitreou urgery younger than 40 year old (the PDR group) and 50 patient without retinopathy (the non–DR group). The duration of diabete and the level of glycemic control were matched between the two group. The control group conited of 50 healthy patient. HLA-A, -B, -C, -DR, and -DQ typing of blood ample wa done uing the tandard microcytotoxicity method.
Reult
The frequency of HLA-B62, Cw4, and DQ4 wa ignificantly higher in the PDR group than in the non–DR group (P = .0020, P = .048, and P = .0026, repectively). The Cw4-DR4-DQ4 haplotype frequency wa ignificantly higher in the PDR group than in the control group and the non–DR group (P = .0059).
Concluion
Our reult ugget that HLA-B62, Cw4, and DQ4 may be ueful for predicting the prognoi of retinopathy in patient with younger-onet type 1 diabete.
