Abstract :
Purpoe
To review demographic characteritic, clinical feature, and long-term outcome of patient with optic neuropathy of Grave dieae after tranantral orbital decompreion.
Deign
Retropective analyi of noncomparative interventional cae erie; long-term follow-up by quetionnaire.
Method
Medical record data (preoperative and potoperative aement) were collected from patient who had tranantral orbital decompreion to treat Grave optic neuropathy. Repone to two follow-up quetionnaire concerning patient atifaction were evaluated. tatitical analyi (reflected a P value) compared preoperative and early potoperative (≤182 day) data.
Reult
Between November 1969 and May 1989, 215 patient underwent tranantral orbital decompreion for Grave optic neuropathy. In 205 eye with viual acuity of 20/40 or wore before decompreion, viual acuity improved by 3 nellen line or more in 110 (54%) (P < .001). Of 291 eye with viual field defect preoperatively, 120 (41%) had reolution, and 126 (43%) had improvement potoperatively (P < .001). Proptoi wa reduced in 350 eye by 4.4 ± 2.3 mm (mean ± D) (P < .001). In 104 eye, dik edema reolved in 72 (69%) and improved in 28 (27%). Repone to quetionnaire mailed in 1990 and 2000 howed that 76% and 88% of repondent, repectively, were ubjectively atified with the reult of orbital decompreion.
Concluion
Tranantral orbital decompreion appeared to be effective in treating optic neuropathy of Grave dieae. Patient atifaction wa high at 10-year and 20-year follow-up.
