Intrauterine Wet Nile viru: ocular and ytemic finding

Purpoe To report the firt documented cae of intrauterine tranmiion of Wet Nile viru (WNV) with reulting congenital chorioretinal carring and central nervou ytem malformation in a newborn. Deign Cae report. Method Ophthalmic finding and laboratory data in an otherwie preumed healthy 2-day-old female are preented. The infant’ mother developed paraplegia due to WNV during the econd trimeter of her pregnancy. The newborn’ external and general phyical examination were unremarkable. Reult Ophthalmic examination dicloed marked chorioretinal change, and magnetic reonance imaging of the brain demontrated evere abnormalitie. erology for WNV wa poitive. Other caue of congenital chorioretinal change were ruled out with the appropriate erology. Concluion Intrauterine tranmiion of WNV may reult in ignificant ocular and neurologic morbidity. Titer for thi important and emerging viral pathogen hould be obtained when tandard erologie are negative in an infant with congenital chorioretinal carring.
