Abstract
Purpoe
To report a cae of bilateral cataract in a child that led to diagnoi of autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiai-ectodermal dytrophy.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
A 12-year-old boy wa being invetigated for weakne, lethargy, hort tature, and blurred viion. He developed bilateral, dene cataract over a 2-week period. He wa found to be hypocalcemic and diagnoed with hypoparathyroidim and autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiai-ectodermal dytrophy.
Reult
Becaue of hypoparathyroidim, adrenocortical failure, and inulin-dependent diabete, it wa 9 month before the patient’ metabolic imbalance wa brought under ufficient control to allow cataract urgery.
Concluion
Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiai-ectodermal dytrophy hould be conidered with diagnoe of hypocalcemic cataract.
