  • Abstract
Purpoe Malfunction in peripapillary hemodynamic ha been uggeted to play a major part in the pathogenei of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). The aim of thi tudy wa to determine whether topically applied brimonidine can influence blood hemodynamic characteritic aociated with the perioptic hort poterior ciliary arterie (PCA), central retinal artery (CRA), and choroidal vacular ytem in POAG patient. Deign Randomized clinical trial. Method In thi propective, intitutional, double-maked, vehicle-controlled, randomized clinial trial, the intraocular preure (IOP) and vacular dynamic of the PCA, CRA, and choroidal vacular ytem were analyzed in both eye of 17 POAG patient, before and after treatment with 0.2% brimonidine for 4 week. Reult Mean IOP reduction wa ignificant (18.7%) following treatment with brimonidine. However, no clear change were recorded with repect to blood perfuion parameter (peak ytolic velocity, end-diatolic velocity, pulatility, and reitance indice) aociated with the PCA and CRA or the choroidal ocular pule amplitude. Concluion Topical treatment of brimonidine to POAG patient caue a ignificant reduction of IOP, but blood hemodynamic propertie aociated with the PCA, CRA, and choroidal vacular ytem appeared unaffected. Topically applied brimonidine, therefore, appear not to contrict or dilate peripapillary blood veel.
