Abstract :
Purpoe To decribe the demographic and clinical feature, complication, treatment, and viual reult in patient with childhood-onet Behçet uveiti. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method A retropective tudy wa made of 36 conecutive patient with Behçet dieae een at the Uveiti ervice, Department of Ophthalmology, Itanbul Faculty of Medicine, Itanbul Univerity, between January 1975 and January 2002. Incluion criteria were fulfillment of the claification criteria of the International tudy Group for Behçet Dieae and onet of uveiti at 16 year of age or younger. The medical record of 36 patient with childhood-onet Behçet uveiti were reviewed. The main outcome meaure were ex, age at onet of uveiti, the initial ymptom of Behçet dieae, clinical ocular feature, ocular complication, ytemic treatment, complication of treatment, and final viual acuity. Reult Twenty-five patient were male, 11 were female. Mean age at onet of uveiti wa 13.6 year. The initial ymptom wa oral ulcer in 63.8% of the patient. The majority of patient (83.3%) had bilateral involvement. Panuveiti wa the mot common form (86.2%). Retinal vaculiti and retiniti were the mot common ocular finding een in 83.3% and 68.2% of the involved eye, repectively. Cataract, maculopathy, and optic atrophy were the mot common complication een in 46.9%, 45.4%, and 39.4% of the involved eye, repectively. Immunouppreive therapy wa adminitered to 75% of the patient. Repone to treatment wa variable. The mot common complication of ytemic treatment were aociated with corticoteroid therapy. Final viual acuity wa wore than 0.1 in 22.7% of the involved eye. Concluion Childhood-onet Behçet uveiti wa more common among male. Bilateral panuveiti with retinal vaculiti and retiniti wa the mot common form of ocular involvement, imilar to the adult patient. The treatment i challenging, a the ue oral corticoteroid i aociated with ignificant complication and the repone to conventional immunouppreive therapy i variable.
