  • Abstract
    Purpoe To decribe the clinical characteritic and treatment repone of ocular roacea in the pediatric population. Deign Retropective cae erie. Method The clinic chart of conecutive pediatric cae of ocular roacea were evaluated over a 34-month period. Minimal diagnotic incluion criteria were the preence of poterior eyelid inflammation including meibomian gland inpiation and lid margin telangiectai, in conjunction with conjunctival injection or epicleriti. Reult ix patient ranged from 3 to 12 year of age at preentation. All hared a long hitory of ocular irritation and photophobia. Five patient (83%) were female and had bilateral involvement. Eyelid telangiectae and meibomian gland dieae were preent in all cae. Three patient (50%) had terile corneal ulcer. Only two patient (33%) had cutaneou involvement at the time of diagnoi. All patient experienced ignificant improvement with a combination of oral antibiotic (doxycycline or erythromycin), with or without topical antibiotic (erythromycin or bacitracin) or topical teroid (fluorometholone). Concluion Ocular roacea in children may be midiagnoed a viral or bacterial infection. Unlike in adult, aociated cutaneou change are uncommon. Mot dieae i bilateral, although involvement may be aymmetric. Repone to conventional treatment i excellent, although long-term treatment may be neceary to prevent relape.
