Abstract
Purpoe
To report the ocular hypertenive repone to high-doe ytemic corticoteroid in a pediatric patient.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
A 9-year-old patient with leukemia received oral predniolone at a doage of 2.3 mg/kg/d for 5 week, followed by a 4-month break and then a 4-week coure of oral dexamethaone at 10 mg/d. Detailed ocular examination wa performed for both eye before and regularly throughout the two coure of treatment.
Reult
The intraocular preure in both eye roe to almot 40 mm Hg after only 8 day of oral corticoteroid. On topping ytemic corticoteroid, the intraocular preure rapidly returned to baeline level within 2 day. A imilar intraocular preure profile wa recorded for both eye during the coure of oral dexamethaone. The patient remained largely aymptomatic throughout.
Concluion
ytemic corticoteroid may give rie to ignificant but aymptomatic ocular hypertenion in pediatric patient.
