Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the viual outcome of patient with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization due to age-related macular degeneration, who received photodynamic therapy (PTD) in a clinical etting and to identify potential predictive viual and angiographic factor.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
The tudy included 74 patient with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization who underwent PDT from January 2000 to March 2001 and completed at leat 1 year follow-up. All patient received verteporfin PDT and were followed clinically, with fluorecein angiography (74 eye), and with indocyanine green angiography (65 eye). A review of the medical record and angiogram wa performed.
Reult
Mean follow-up wa 15.6 month. Patient received a mean of 3.4 treatment per year. ixty-ix percent lot le than 3 nellen line of viual acuity. Three patient (4%) experienced profound viual acuity lo to finger counting. Final viual acuity wa poitively correlated with leion ize and viual acuity at preentation. Viual outcome wa wore in the preence of cytoid macular edema. On indocyanine green angiography, a round hypofluorecent pot wa een at the ite of the PDT, with maintenance of medium and large choroidal veel.
Concluion
maller leion ize and better viual acuity at preentation were good predictive ign, wherea cytoid macular edema wa found to be a poor prognotic ign for viual outcome following PDT.
