Abstract
Purpoe
To quantify prevalence of aymmetric intraocular preure (IOP) and ae aociation with undiagnoed open-angle glaucoma.
Deign
Population-baed cro-ectional tudy.
Method
Participant underwent applanation tonometry. Intraocular preure aymmetry wa defined for difference ≥ 3 mm Hg; open-angle glaucoma wa diagnoed if glaucomatou optic dik and field change were congruou. Analye excluded ubject uing glaucoma medication, known glaucoma, peudoexfoliation, and cataract urgery.
Reult
Intraocular preure aymmetry wa preent in 5.1% of ubject and wa greater for patient older than 70 year (6.2%). Of ubject with maximum IOP > 21 mm Hg, IOP aymmetry wa preent in 41.1%. Undiagnoed open-angle glaucoma wa more frequent among ubject with (4.8%) than without (1.2%) IOP aymmetry. Thi relationhip remained ignificant for maximum IOP ≤ 21 mm Hg.
Concluion
Intraocular preure aymmetry may be a ueful ign of undiagnoed glaucoma in ubject without elevated IOP
