A propective, pilot tudy of treatment of amblyopia in children 10 to <18 year old

Purpoe To determine whether amblyopia can be uccefully treated in older children and adolecent. Deign Propective, ingle group treatment trial. Method ixty-ix amblyopic patient aged 10 to <18 year with amblyopic eye acuity of 20/40 to 20/160 were treated with daily patching (≥2 hour a day) combined with at leat 1 hour of near activitie. Viual acuity wa meaured before and after 2 month of precribed treatment. Reult Viual acuity improved 2 or more line from baeline in 18 (27%) of the 66 patient (95% confidence interval, 17%–40%), and the improvement appeared imilar in 10- to <14-year-old and 14- to <18-year-old. Concluion Amblyopia treatment can improve viual acuity in older children and adolecent. A randomized controlled trial i needed to determine if there i an upper age limit for which amblyopia treatment i ucceful.
