Abstract :
Purpoe
To report a modified urgical technique for retinal tranlocation in eye with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization.
Deign
Experimental animal tudy.
Method
Nine pigmented rabbit were ued conecutively to apply thi technique. Placement of inferotemporal cleral imbrication uture wa followed by vitrectomy with poterior hyaloid eparation. Balanced aline olution (B) wa injected ubretinally with a 30G needle or with a 39G hydrodiection cannula and vicou fluid injector to detach one retinal quadrant. Under low intraocular preure, the imbrication uture were tied, the clerotomy ite were cloed, and intravitreal air tamponade wa injected. Rotation uture were paed and the eye globe wa rotated approximately 90 degree counterclockwie. The rotation uture were removed after 24 hour. Retinal photograph were taken and fundu examination wa performed on potoperative day 1, 2 and 7. The animal were acrificed after 7 to 10 day for potmortem macrocopic examination.
Reult
The entire procedure wa performed in nine eye of nine rabbit. In eight eye, tranlocation could be een on the firt potoperative day after removal of the rotation uture. The average amount of tranlocation wa 667 μm (range: 500–800 μm) in a naal to inferonaal direction. Vitreou hemorrhage occurred at the end of urgery in one eye due to hypotony. Iatrogenic mall retinal break occurred in 2 eye but did not prevent completion of the procedure. There wa only a temporary hyperemia of the eyelid and conjunctiva.
Concluion
Limited retinal tranlocation uing rotational uture provided a predictable amount of tranlocation in the planned direction. Thi technique i expected to be ueful for uperior macular tranlocation in human.
