Abstract :
Purpoe
Recent tructural and hitochemical data from our laboratory indicate that human druen often poe ditinct, tructural core domain. A imilar, corelike tructure i frequently noted clinically in ome druen-related condition. To ae the nature of the corelike tructure oberved clinically, we evaluated color photograph and fluorecein angiogram from patient with early-adult onet grouped druen (EAOGD).
Deign
Retropective cae erie.
Method
The area of the ix larget druen and hyperfluorecent leion for eight patient confirmed to have EAOGD were etimated by two maked examiner (RRG, JCF). Data were normalized uing a logarithmic tranformation and evaluated uing a mixed model analyi to account for intragrader, interoberver and intraubject effect.
Reult
The average color to hyperfluorecence druen area ratio wa 2.29 (E, 0.06). The area of druen viewed in color photograph ignificantly exceed that of the correponding area of hyperfluorecence (P< .0001). The average druen area (geometric mean) wa 0.014 mm2 (E, 0.001 mm2) and the average hyperfluorecent leion area wa 0.006 mm2 (E, 0.0005 mm2). The area of the hyperfluorecent leion do not vary among the capillary, venou, and wahout angiographic phae. The leion exceed choroidal intenity and demontrate prominent, uniformly hyperintene fluorecence throughout all but the choroidal phae of the angiogram.
Concluion
Thee data how that large viible druen in EAOGD are concentric to region of hyperfluorecence, uggeting that druen may poe clinically detectable, ubtructural domain. Ongoing tudie eek to determine whether clinical evidence of druen ubtructure may exit in other druen-aociated diorder, uch a in age-related macular degeneration.
