Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate age-related change in ocular and corneal higher-order wavefront aberration and elucidate relative contribution of the cornea and the len in the age-related change.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Corneal and ocular higher-order wavefront aberration in the central 6 mm diameter were meaured with videokeratography and the Hartmann-hack wavefront aberrometer in 75 normal eye of 75 patient with a mean age of 43.5 ± 11.7 year (range, 18–69 year). Higher-order wavefront aberration were calculated with Zernike polynomial up to ixth order. From the Zernike coefficient, we calculated root mean quare (RM) of coma and pherical aberration. To examine age-related change of the polarity of pherical aberration, the change of the Zernike coefficient Z40 wa alo invetigated.
Reult
Both corneal (r = .307, P = .007) and ocular (r = .334, P = .0033) coma RM howed poitive correlation with age. There wa a poitive correlation between corneal and ocular coma RM (r = .468, P < .0001). The RM of corneal pherical aberration did not change with aging (r = .153, P = .1895), wherea the RM of ocular pherical aberration had a poitive correlation with aging (r = .308, P = .0068).
Concluion
Thee reult ugget that the ocular coma increae with age, mainly becaue of the increae in the corneal coma, and the ocular pherical aberration increae with age, mainly becaue of the increae in the pherical aberration in the internal optic.
