Abstract :
Purpoe To determine total homocyteine level in aqueou humor of peudoexfoliation open-angle glaucoma patient. Deign Cae-control tudy. Method Total homocyteine level were meaured by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay in aqueou humor and plama of 29 patient with peudoexfoliation glaucoma and 31 control patient with cataract. Patient with factor affecting homocyteine level were excluded. Reult We oberved ignificantly elevated (twofold) homocyteine level in the aqueou humor of the glaucoma patient (Z = −5.11, P < .0001). Additionally, the calculated ratio (plama:aqueou humor) wa ignificantly lower in thee patient (Z = −3.57, P < .001), and aqueou homocyteine wa ignificantly correlated with their repective elevated plama level (r = .42, P = .02). Concluion Becaue homocyteine induce vacular injury and alteration of extracellular matrix, high aqueou homocyteine may trigger the abnormal matrix accumulation characteritic. It may reflect the propoed impairment of the blood-aqueou barrier of peudoexfoliation open-angle glaucoma and be involved in it pathogenei.
