Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluatethe viual outcome of patient with myopic ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization (CNV) given photodynamic therapy (PDT) in a clinical etting, and to identify potential relation between the viual outcome and the age at treatment. Deign Interventional cae erie. Method Retropective comparative tudy. etting: Outpatient ophthalmology clinic. patient:Twenty-nine conecutive patient (30 eye) with ubfoveal CNV caued by pathologic myopia who were treated with verteporfin PDT from January 2000 to May 2003. intervention: All the patient received verteporfin PDT and were followed clinically and with fluorecein angiography (FA). Review of the medical record and angiogram wa performed. Patient were divided into two group by age, uing the median age (60 year) a the cutoff. main outcome meaure: Viual acuity (VA) at the end of follow-up in the older-patient group compared with the younger-patient group. Reult The mean age wa 63.1 year. Mean follow-up wa 11.5 month. Patient received a mean of 3.48 treatment. Mean VA improved in the younger group from 0.63 to 0.39 logMAR (P = .02, paired t tet) and deteriorated in the older group from 0.71 to 0.99 logMAR (P = .03, paired t tet). In the whole cohort, 33% of eye lot 3 or more line of nellen bet-corrected VA; in the older age group, 50% of eye lot 3 or more line, wherea in the younger age group, only 8% of eye did o (P = .024, Fiherʹ exact tet). Concluion In our conecutive cae erie, viual prognoi of myopic CNV after PDT wa found to be influenced by age at treatment.
