Macular hemorrhage after laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) with femtoecond laer flap creation

Purpoe To report the firt cae of macular hemorrhage following laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) with femtoecond laer flap creation. Deign Obervational cae report. Method A 36-year-old woman underwent uncomplicated, bilateral, imultaneou LAIK procedure for correction of moderate myopia (−5.00 diopter OD and −6.00 diopter O). LAIK flap creation wa performed uing the IntraLae femtoecond laer. Reult On potoperative day 1, the patientʹ uncorrected and bet-corrected viual acuitie were 20/20 OD and 20/40 O. A dilated fundocopic examination revealed a one-third dik diameter macular hemorrhage O. An intravenou fluorecein angoiogram ruled out the preence of predipoing macular pathology. Two month after LAIK, the macular hemorrhage had cleared, and 6 month later, the BCVA improved to 20/25 O. Concluion Macular hemorrhage may occur after LAIK, even in the abence of previouly identified rik factor, uch a high myopia, pre-exiting choroidal neovaculaization, lacquer crack, and udden change in intraocular preure aociated with microkeratome-aited flap creation.
