Aociation of the M55L and Q192R paraoxonae gene polymorphim with age-related macular degeneration

Purpoe To invetigate the reported aociation of the two ingle-nucleotide polymorphim (NP) of the paraoxonae gene (PON1), Met-Leu 55 (M55L) and Gln-Arg 192 (Q192R), in individual of Anglo-Celtic decent who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Deign Cae-control aociation tudy. Method ixty-two individual with late (end-tage) AMD and 115 control ubject (without AMD) were included in thi tudy. The M55L and Q192R NP were amplified by polymerae chain reaction and genotyped, and tatitical analyi wa undertaken. Reult No aociation of either NP wa detected in peron of Anglo-Celtic decent who had AMD, although there wa a ignificant difference in NP allele frequency between Anglo-Celtic and Japanee individual. Concluion The M55L and Q192R NP of the PON1 gene do not appear to be aociated with late AMD in individual of Anglo-Celtic decent.
