Abstract :
Purpoe
compare the reult of vitrectomy with or without arteriovenou (AV) croing heathotomy for macular edema aociated with branch retinal vein occluion (BRVO).
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
A retropective tudy of 36 eye with BRVO-aociated macular edema. Twenty eye underwent AV heathotomy (A group), and 16 eye underwent poterior vitreou detachment (PVD group). Bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), fluorecein angiography (FA), and optical coherence tomography to determine foveal thickne were conducted preoperatively and at 12 month potoperatively.
Reult
The mean potoperative BCVA were ignificantly better in both the A and the PVD group (P = .008 and P = .001, repectively). Foveal thickne decreaed ignificantly 1 month after urgery in both group (P = .002 and P = .007) and continued to decreae up to 12 month. The potoperative mean BCVA and improvement of BCVA and foveal thickne were not ignificantly different for the two group at any potoperative period. Potoperative FA howed reperfuion of the occluded vein in 10 eye in the A group and 2 eye in the PVD group, and formation of hunt veel at the AV croing ite or around the macular region in all of the other eye of both group.
Concluion
Both AV heathotomy and imple PVD ignificantly reduced macular edema aociated with BRVO. However, there wa no ignificant difference in the improvement of macular function following either procedure. Potoperative improvement of retinal circulation by either reperfuion of the occluded vein or collateral veel formation wa found. Thi accounted for functional and morphologic improvement.
