Abstract :
Purpoe To report on viual outcome of patient receiving intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide for treatment of diffue diabetic macular edema. Deign Propective, comparative clinical interventional tudy. Method etting: Intitutional. patient population: The tudy included 25 conecutive patient (50 eye) with bilateral diabetic macular edema. intervention procedure: Unilateral intravitreal injection of about 20 mg triamcinolone acetonide into the eye (tudy group) more everely affected by diabetic maculopathy. The contralateral eye erved a control group. Mean follow-up wa 7.1 ± 4.1 month. main outcome meaure: Viual acuity, intraocular preure. Reult In the tudy group, viual acuity increaed ignificantly (P ≤ .001) by 3.0 ± 2.6 nellen line to a peak at two to ix month after the injection, and decreaed ignificantly (P = .001) toward the end of follow up. At the end of follow-up, viual acuity wa higher, not ignificantly (P = .18) higher, than at baeline. An increae in viual acuity wa found in 23 eye (92%). In the control group, difference between viual acuity at baeline and at any of the re-examination during follow-up were not ignificant (P > .10). In an intra-individual inter-eye comparion, gain in viual acuity wa ignificantly (P < .05) higher in the injected eye, for the meaurement obtained up to four month after injection. Concluion Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide may temporarily increae viual acuity in eye with diabetic macular edema.
