Vitreou concentration of triamcinolone acetonide in human eye after intravitreal or ubtenon injection

Purpoe To compare vitreou concentration of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) achieved by prior therapeutic intravitreal and ubtenon injection. Deign Interventional cae erie. Method Vitreou ample were collected from patient who required vitreou urgery, ix having received a ubtenon injection of TA and another ix, an intravitreal injection. Vitreou concentration of TA were meaured by high-performance liquid chromatography. Reult Vitreou concentration of TA after intravitreal injection were 1.22 ± 0.24 μg/ml, ignificantly higher than thoe after ubtenon injection (<0.001 μg/ml, P = .003). Vitreou concentration of TA after ubtenon injection and TA-aited vitrectomy performed in a few patient to viualize the tranparent vitreou gel were 0.20 ± 0.11 μg/ml, an intermediate amount between thee two group. Concluion Much higher vitreou concentration of TA after intravitreal injection than ubtenon injection may accelerate therapeutic effect when intravitreal injection are given to reduce macular edema. ubtenon injection of TA may act via the clera a oppoed to the vitreou.
