Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare microperimetry uing the canning laer ophthalmocope (LO, Rodentock, Germany) and the recently introduced Micro Perimeter 1 (Nidek Technologie, Italy).
Deign
Propective comparative obervational tudy.
Method
Fundu perimetry with tatic threhold perimetry wa performed uing the LO and the MP1 in 68 eye of 40 conecutive patient with different retinal dieae for example, central erou chorioretinopathy, macular dytrophy, and age-related macular degeneration. With both intrument, an automated 4–2–1 taircae trategy with Goldmann III timuli and a comparable number of timuli were applied. The depth and ize of the detected cotomata a well a the location and tability of fixation were compared between both intrument.
Reult
There wa good concordance of reult, with 75% (51 of 68 eye) howing an equal defect. Wherea the MP1 howed larger defect (depth and ize) in 23.5% (16/68) of eye tudied than the LO, the defect appeared larger with the LO in 1 eye. Concerning fixation analyi, imilar reult were found for fixation tability with table fixation in 47.1% (MP1: 32/68) and 48.5% (LO: 33/68) and likewie for the location of fixation with foveal fixation in 54.4% (37/68) with the MP1 and the LO. Wherea the average number of timuli wa imilar for both intrument (MP1 56.8 ±16.1, LO 62.9 ± 17.0), examination time wa prolonged with the MP1 (MP1: 11m35 ± 3m47, LO: 10m29 ± 3m23). Throughout all examination, fundu viualization with the LO wa uperior to the MP1.
Concluion
For automated threhold microperimetry the MP1 provide reult comparable to our LO perimetry. Both intrument enable detection of enitivity lo of the central viual field and an analyi of fixation behavior during microperimetry. Neverthele, the MP1, with it automated real-time image alignment, facilitate examination. Additionally, the enlarged field allow teting in an area of 44 × 36 degree intead of the 33 × 21 degree-area of the LO. However, in comparion to our LO-oftware, the current oftware of the MP1 require improvement before exact meaurement of defined retinal dieae are poible
